Not Just Pizza: Five Must-Try Plates and Desserts at Smith & Lentz

Here at Smith & Lentz, home to all the good things, we say go for it; the heart wants what the heart wants. From our homemade pizza made with a secret sourdough starter to our made-from-scratch ice creams featuring local dairy and deliciously irreverent pairings, there’s no saying no to what you’re in the mood for when food is at its best.

Beyond the Pizza: Five Must-Tries at Smith & Lentz

Looking for a great start to an amazing meal? We have an app for that. Our appetizer menu features beautiful briny olives warmed to perfection, goat cheese with olive oil and jam, fresh salads with greens, veggies, and fruits produced by our local farmer friends, and more.

Let’s begin at the beginning.

1. Sourdough Bread

A huge favorite here at our East Nashville restaurant is our homemade sourdough bread. We use it in our garlic bread, generously basted with garlic and served with a beautifully balanced herb butter. Warm, rustic, and comforting, our sourdough is crunchy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside. Pair the sourdough with our marinated olives, and you’re setting the stage for a ridiculously decadent dinner.

2. Farm Fresh Kale Caesar Salad

Fresh kale salad will leave you pining for more. This salad is a forever classic—a cornucopia of crisp, colorful, and local crave-worthy greens zhuzhed with Parmigiana Reggiano, tossed with homemade Caesar dressing spiked with a touch of great anchovies. Is it a salad or is it an indulgence? It’s both.

3. Gem Lettuce Salad

Looking for something a little different in the salad category? Try our Gem Lettuce Salad featuring organic Gem lettuce grown for us by Bountiful Blessings Farm in Williamsport, TN. Gem lettuces are a one-two combo of crisp and fresh. For the winter, we blend our Gem with satsumas from small orchards, seasonal farm veg, and a generous portion of tomme (a rustic semi-firm cheese that originated in the French Alps and Switzerland). This bounty is adorned with a generous pour of our green goddess dressing. Bringing it all home is a sprinkling of crunchy, salty pistachios. Pair this with any of our pizzas to keep things fresh.

4. Our Sourdough Brown Butter Caramel Ice Cream

Ready for dessert? Our desserts are the perfect ending to your dining experience at our shop in East Nashville. For starters, our Sourdough Brown Butter Caramel Ice Cream is unexpectedly sweet, savory, tangy, and rich. The brown butter gives this made-from-scratch dessert a nutty flavor, balanced by the caramel and punctuated by the complexities only sourdough can impart. Luscious, bright, and punchy, you have to try it (and come back for more).

5. Crema Coffee with Miso Caramel Ice Cream

Aromatic, freshly roasted coffee from our friends at Crema is soaked in luxurious JD Country Milk. After churning, we drizzle in layers of umami-rich miso caramel. You can only find scoops of this at 903 Main Street.

East Nashville’s Neighborhood Pizza Joint Serving Much More

When we opened Smith & Lentz Pizza and Brewing, we were going for a chill, colorful, approachable vibe—a great restaurant serving seriously great food. And thanks to a lot of work from many talented team members, we don’t think it could be going better.

We’ve partnered with farms in the region growing incredible fruits, produce, and even grains, all of which form the basis for our sourdough pizza crust, appetizers, mains, and more. As East Nashville continues to evolve, we’re proud to be part of a community known as much for its artistry as it is for its authenticity. If all this sounds good, you’ll feel right at home at Smith & Lentz.
